Bromofluorescein Fluorescent Dye
Bromofluorescein is one of the most intense dyes known, having a rich fluorescent orange colour, which is visible at parts per million dilutions. Bromofluorescein is a clearer and more reddish orange than Acridine orange.
Bromofluorescein is an acid dye - its CI name is acid 87. The material is used in dye lasers (peak emission 517nm), in microscopy - where it is known commonly as Eosin (as cytoplasmic stain, as counterstain for Haematoxylin, and as component of Romanowsky stains such as Giemsa) and in textile dyeing. Bromofluorescein is permitted as a tracer dye for water courses. Scuddlebutt Bromofluorescein is a commercial grade material and has been not necessarily suitable for laser or microscopy use. A specific microbiological staining grade is available on request. Please contact us for more details or visit our Scuddlebutt stains section from Microscopy.
Scuddlebutt Bromofluorescein is suitable for the dyeing of wool and silk. It is not recommended for cotton. If you are new to craft dyeing take a look at our Textile Dyeing Methods Guide from the dyes category or the customer services index.
