Petri Dish Medium - Tryptic Soy Agar

Microbiological culture medium is used for isolation and identification of micro-organisms such as bacteria, yeasts, moulds and fungi etc. The culture medium will promote the growth of the micro-organisms while also keeping them isolated. Soy agar is particularly good because it is a general purpose medium.

The 200ml quantity of tryptic soy agar is stored within a 250ml bottle in solid form, which must be heated and then poured into the Petri dishes. These can then be inoculated with the culture of your choice. A handout containing general instructions (storage and use) and some example experiments, is available on request.
